Medical marijuana is not legal in South Carolina, however, it is steps away from legalization. As of mid-May, the bill to legalize medical marijuana is on the calendar for debate at the House of Representatives. Already passed through the Senate, there is a good chance this bill will be implemented very soon! South Carolina patients suffering from a long list of qualifying conditions, like multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, and PTSD, will soon get access to the natural relief they have been waiting for.

More About the Compassionate Care Act
Known as the Compassionate Care Act, this bill will allow patients with a qualifying condition to possess and purchase marijuana. Cannabis is considered safer than many prescription drugs, and in fact, it is often more effective. This bill lists specific conditions for a patient to qualify for medical marijuana. Here is a list of the qualifying conditions:
Multiple sclerosis
Neurological disease or disorder, including Epilepsy
Sickle cell anemia, autism
Glaucoma
Cachexia or wasting syndrome
Severe or persistent nausea
A terminal illness with less than a year to live
A condition causing severe and persistent muscle spasms
A condition for which opiates are or could be prescribed
If approved for a qualifying condition, a South Carolina Marijuana Card doctor will help you safely navigate your best treatment options with medical marijuana.
Doctors will meet with patients to evaluate their conditions and recommend cannabis if there is a clear benefit. These certified physicians are required to take medical marijuana education courses, advising patients on proper dosing, potential risks, and modes of administering marijuana.
If approved by the certified marijuana doctor, you will be provided with a written treatment plan and officially recommend for medical marijuana. You will then be registered with the state and able to purchase marijuana products from the 100 dispensaries licensed to sell marijuana.
Patients in South Carolina with debilitating conditions deserve to have the option of medical cannabis under a physician’s care.
